Nico Yektai is a New Yorker who was born in Teheran, Iran in 1969 when his parents were in the middle of a year long visit to his fathers country of birth. His father left the country in 1945 to study Art in New York. Manoucher Yektai has exhibited his paintings in the Embassy program through MOMA. Nico Yektai has developed a style in woodworking and furniture design that aims to capture the spontaneity and representational power of his father's Abstract Expressionist paintings. The components of the piece become the detail as they are pushed, pulled and faceted while the piece is evolving. This adds complexity and the introduction of the unknown into his work. Yektai was trained at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the School for American Crafts MFA program in furniture design. He has exhibited in art galleries and design shows across the country including the Smithsonian Craft Show and the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton NY.
