Artist Mattie L. Williams is the mother of visually impaired artist Michael A. Williams. She is a native of Brownsville, Tennessee and self taught. Ms. Williams has always been fascinated and passionate about art since the age of 9. She can recall on several occasions when teachers would call upon her to design their black board with art and they would pay her 25 cents where she could by herself lunch. Ms. Williams favorite subject is abstract. She loves the ability to freely create through form and color. She feels that when it comes to abstract painting you are only limited through your imagination and all things are possible through creativity. Ms. Williams is not afraid to take bold new steps to wow her fans through bold colors and complex shapes and patterns. She may spend anywhere from an hour to a couple of days to create an abstract. Ms. Williams also limits her size of her paintings due to many projects. She estimates that she can create at least 10 to 15 paintings a week if necessary. During the 70s, she was featured on a local television in Memphis when she had decorated her trash can with abstract flowers. During the 80s and 90s Ms. Williams works were sold on local public television station WKNO art auction and through ebay. Her works have been sold worldwide. She have hosted several art exhibits with her son Michael A. Williams. Ms. Williams in now residing in Memphis Tennessee.
