Hartman’s art practice looks at human interactions with the sea. Oceans have become a platform to discuss global issues, physically linking us all through international waters. She seeks to create an open dialogue about cultural issues and current events through her artworks. The ocean is a passageway for commerce, culture, and research. Hartman works primarily in embroidery and sculptural installations. Photo documentation of our encounters with the natural world serves as a departure point in her work.
