Alisa Banks
About the author

Alisa Banks explores links between contemporary culture, her Louisiana Creole heritage, and the African diaspora by digging into ancestral pasts. These themes contextualize concepts of otherness, culture and memory, challenge systemic erasure and honor ancestral roots. They invite the viewer to consider home, terrain, and the body in relation to history, helping to foster pride, understanding, and connectedness. Banks' works have been exhibited widely and are housed in several private and public collections, including the Smithsonian Institution, the US Library of Congress, The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, and The British Library. Alisa holds a B.S. degree in Medical Laboratory Science from Oklahoma State University and a M.F.A. degree in Visual Art from Texas Woman’s University.
