Daniel Levinson was born in Durango, Colorado. He received a BFA in 2009 from the University of Colorado and was accepted into Pratt Institute's Master of Fine Arts program for painting and drawing. He will enroll starting August 2013. Dan currently lives and works in Denver, Colorado. Aside from his studio practice, Dan has dedicated himself to the realization of community based art projects. Specifically, he took leadership roles in managing, designing, mentoring and painting a number of community-based, collaborative, mural projects, including projects in Colombia 2011/12 and one of the largest peace murals in the US (Holly Square Peace Mural). His experience highlights public art projects that engage members of the community, activates public space and promotes messages/themes of the specific location with relation to the idea of cultural reciprocity. Daniel Levinsons' style is reminiscent of Hip Hop visual culture with references and representation of the natural world. He narrates scenes; including themes from his personal history and experiences. The work is a hybrid of surrealism, abstract expressionism and photo-montage. He primarily works with acrylic on board, canvas, wood or concrete walls.
