"I am submitting my Earth Day Flags to be flown at all US Embassies throughout the world during the month of April - the month that Earth Day, April 22, falls. Earth Day Flags can be flown on their own flagpoles or below the US Flag depending on the number of poles at each Embassy." - Lawrence McGarvey - Artist

Earth Day is an international awareness day of observance and appreciation of the Earth. Earth Day events are celebrated globally during this time of year. To help participate in this global event I have created Earth Day Flags.

Earth Day Flags were designed with Holes so the Earth can be seen through the flag. Earth Day Flags let the Earth represent itself.

The globe symbol, cut out from the flags fabric, allows the environment to become part of the flags design.

Earth Day Flags were conceived in 1992 by artist Lawrence McGarvey.

After winning the 1989 Herb Lubalin Medal for the International Design Competition to help eradicate Illiteracy throughout the world, Mr McGarvey began to design a flag that would incorporate all life on Earth. Realizing that a traditional 2 dimensional flag would not be sufficient for such a grand symbol, Mr McGarvey cut holes into the flags' fabric, letting the actual Earth be seen through the flag.

Earth Day Flags are not affiliated with any cause or political stance. The flags were solely designed to remind one to enjoy the environment that they are in.

"It is my hope that when seeing Earth Day Flags people will be reminded of the Earth that we all share." - Lawrence McGarvey
