I grew up in Tryon, North Carolina. After attending the public schools there, I went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I received a B.A. in Studio Art. After graduation, I moved to New York City. While working in the art department of a publishing company, I took art and advertising courses at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts in the evenings. Next came marriage and children.

A career in advertising began at Doyle, Dane, Bernbach, which was the first great creative agency. I left Doyle to become the head writer on the Volvo account at another agency. In our early 30’s, my wife,Pat, and I had four young children and hated my commute to New York. We found ourselves back in Chapel Hill where I became a partner in an agency. Pat got her Masters in City Planning. The kids loved playing in the woods.

In 1986, we moved to Atlanta, Georgia for greater business opportunities. Several years later, with our children away at school, I had time to paint something other than walls for the first time since college. My art, however, remained a hobby until recently. I’m now painting full time.

I’ve had work shown in the Hilton Head Art League’s Juried Show, the Rome Art Council’s Juried National Show, the Atlanta Artists Center & Gallery, and a one person show in the Upstairs Gallery in Tryon. I’ve also exhibited at several major festivals such as the Inman Park Spring Festival in Atlanta. My paintings are in private collections in New York, North Carolina and Atlanta.
