Elizabeth Leader grew up on the north shore of Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating from Mass College of Art, she moved to Upstate New York to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology. There she earned an MFA degree, then worked as an art instructor, graphic designer and painter. Her spread-out family kept her traveling between the east and west coasts, the Gulf of Mexico and many points in between. These travels kept her acutely aware of environmental issues in different locations.
In the last few years, Leader’s artworks have been exhibited around the country from New York, to Massachusetts, Alaska, Hawaii, California and the Great Lakes. Her work is in several museums and many private collections. Pieces of her “Troubled Waters” series are currently traveling with the Smithsonian’s “GYRE, the Plastic Ocean” exhibition - now on view in San Jose, California.
