Melissa A. Matthews is a 28 year old, mixed-media artist and illustrator from Brooklyn, New York. She is of Afro-Trinidadian descent as such, her practice revolves around straddling a cultural divide. Matthews focuses on reconciling said concerns by constructing spaces in which realities and perceptions of "twoness" co-exist. She holds a Bachelor Fine Art degree from Howard University and currently splits her time between the East Coast of United States (primarily Washington D.C. and New York City) and her cultural home of Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies.
