I suppose I was born into painting. My grandfather’s paint store in Brooklyn was my favorite place to play; Shiny paint cans, tubes of color and the smell of linseed oil permeating the store were imprinted on me at a very early age. Art has always defined my life. I attended children’s Saturday morning drawing classes at the Brooklyn Museum and then classes at Pratt Institute for high school students.
My recent work is an extension of my interest in collage and photography. Fabric folds become sculptural forms and emphasize the tension dimensional space abstract passages. I continue to examine the relationship between the real and the imaginary and look forward to having a solo exhibition within the next two years.
I have a graduate degree in Fine Art from Hunter College, NY. Though I predominantly paint in oil, I also work in other media including photography and collage. My work explores relationships between people and objects and how that relationship can shape a visual narrative.
The New York State Council on the Arts, the National Academy Museum; Abby Austin Mural Arts Fellowship have awarded my work recognition. I have also received the George Sugarman Award, the Ludwig Vogelstein grant and a NYFA Workshop grant. My art can be seen as a permanent installation at the Jacksonville, Fl. International Airport. I am represented in private and public collections including The Museum of American Folk Arts, AT&T, CUNY Art Gallery, Citicorp and Columbia Pictures Ltd. I exhibit work in New York City and internationally.
