I have worked in many different jobs: from teaching to a government career to a senior position at the Guggenheim Museum. I have a master’s in painting and a doctorate in art history. When I was in art school, I was trained in a classical style common during the 60s and 70s, with an emphasis on design, a representational style and color theory, studying under Emery Bopp at Yale.

After finishing my degrees, I taught both painting and art history; however, my own studio time was limited for many years. I retired early due to some medical issues and later developed a tremor in my right hand. Losing some ability to work representationally, I always felt frustrated with my work. I decided to abandon what I thought was comfortable and turned my focus on experimentation with different media and non-representational painting.
