Shannon Donovan is a sculptor and installation artist. Her work incorporates a variety of media and blends the debris and decorative follies of 21st-century life with ubiquitous objects seen and experienced daily in urban life. The resulting work promotes interplay between nature and artifice, blurs the lines of exterior and interior space and combines nature’s disorder with domestic order, and suggests that exuberant excess is better than good taste.
Donovan earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, Scotland, in 2006. Her work has been selected for numerous juried exhibitions, including the 30th International Ceramics Competition, L'Alcora, Spain; Biennial Juried Ceramics Exhibition, Northern Arizona University Art Museum; and The 17th San Angelo National Ceramics Competition, San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. Her installation Living Room was selected for inclusion at the 2007 Society of Scottish Artists exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy. Her piece titled Exuberance is better than taste, was featured in the 2009 edition of 500 Ceramic Sculptures (Lark Books). Donovan’s most ambitious project to date, a site-specific installation for Philadelphia International Airport, will be on view in Terminal C from October 2010 through March 2011.
Donovan currently lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her work is represented by Kolok Gallery (North Adams, Massachusetts).
