Jamaican-born artist, Vernando Reuben first arrived to U.S. shores at the age of 5. Largely self-taught, Reuben began pursuing a fine arts education only after satisfying a liberal arts degree. It was while teaching middle school social studies to under-resourced students in the Bronx, and being exposed to New York City's rich collections of art and culture; and with the urgings of some very young fans, that Reuben started to developed his own cravings for the arts as a career. He witnessed a city not just as melting pot, but as kaleidoscope of eager participants rich with stories and expressive modes of their own. He has called upon these visions as subject for his mixed media collages.
