My work explores the relationship between the unintentional and emotional energy. With influences as diverse as Clive Barker and Richard Diebenkorn, new insights are distilled from both the abstract and modern meanings.
Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by nature and music. I get my inspiration from emotions, the seasons and the energy I feel from my surroundings. What starts out as a vision soon evolves into something completely different. With spurts of absurdity and humor, I let the painting reveal itself. I consider every painting a puzzle to be solved and love the challenge when problems are created.
My subject matter is actually the "process" of painting itself. Each layer used gives me the information for the next. I love to explore the dance between paint and marks by using experimental methods of application that demand spontaneity in gesture and thought, while maintaining an informed reason for every action that is taken. This is a challenging and illuminating experience because it pushes me further into the discovery of new possibilities.
I don’t tell the painting what to do, it tells me. As shifting forms become reconfigured through frantic and diverse practice, the viewer is left with a hymn to the limits of our existence.
