As a master in acrylic’s and watercolor, Vickie captures the resplendent beauty of fauna and flora by creating stunning works of art, especially of African wildlife. Drawing upon her extensive field study and award- winning photography of these magnificent animals in their natural settings, her accurate yet stylistic paintings are in-demand among discriminating collectors of fine art. Her works of art have been in numerous magazines and newspapers in America and around the world. Because of her commitment to protect endangered wildlife and habitats, McMillan generously donates paintings to raise funds for important conservation causes in Texas and around the world. To this date she has donated or helped raise over $200,000. towards Art scholarships and Wildlife Conservation around the world. Vickie uses her artistic talents to impart knowledge and expose as many whom are willing, to educate themselves about Earth’s finite resources. Many people she works with do not have the privilege of traveling the world, so it is her desire to bring the world to them, especially the beauty of Africa.
She often displays her works in public buildings, shopping malls and schools in order to “bring Africa back to Texas”; thus motivating young people and adults to appreciate, enjoy, and care for precious natural resources. Because of her significant success as a wildlife artist and her eager concern for the environment, Vickie McMillan received the esteemed honor of being the 2014-2016 Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster Artist (grant funding), 2014 Birds in Art Exhibition/Woodson Art Museum and National tour (International Avian Art), 2015-2014 The Hunting Art Prize finalist, 2013 Safari Club International Houston Artist of the Year, 2011 Houston Safari Club Artist of the Year and 2013 The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival People Choice Award for Best Artist. This prestigious designation is reserved for only a handful of premier artists that win the respect of a sophisticated constituency of wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists. In 2015 Vickie's works will be in 7 Art Museums as well as a book about wildlife and art.
In addition to her work as a fine artist, Vickie McMillan uses her platform as a, Master Artist for Because ART Matters, Woodlands Arts Council and ARTreach Roster Artist. She is a Life time Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and serves on the Art Committee as a Judge as well as the School Art Auction Committee; Safari Club International; Houston Safari Club to produce collaborative community enrichment art projects that have been created and installed in public buildings. Installations have included Texas Children’s Hospital, The Houston Symphony, The Harris County Juvenile Detention Center, The AIDS Foundation of Houston, and numerous schools, nursing homes, rehabilitation and treatment centers, detentions facilities, shelters for the abused, and places of worship. McMillan designs these projects to address important social issues and bring joy and hope to hurting people through the universal language of art. Not only has she trained and impacted thousands of Texans, Vickie McMillan has conducted international art outreach campaigns stimulating economic development and uplifting and inspiring many tens of thousands of students and adults in Mexico, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
