Debbie Carter

Barbara Boyd Carter (1932-2019) grew up in Flemington, NJ, a small town famous for the Lindbergh kidnapping trial, Flemington Furs, Stangl Pottery and Turntable Junction Village shops.
Born into a family of three generations of house painters, my mother began drawing around age five when her father challenged her to comics drawing contests at the kitchen table. When she got better than him he quit, and she became the artist in the family. She told me she liked the praise for her ability but that she didn’t even know how to hold a paintbrush until she got to Carnegie Tech’s School of Art, now Carnegie Mellon. She studied with Andy Warhol's teachers 1950-54 and graduated with a BFA in pictorial design.
Her pictures are in the collections of Heinz History Center, Cincinnati Museum Center, and. historical societies in Monroeville, PA and Huntington, NY. Her solo show, "Old houses and landmarks," took place last fall of 2024 at Daniel Gale Sotheby's realty in Northport, Long Island.
