Betsy Bannan

I make paintings that are based on seeing the earth from above-from a plane or satellite-that show my interest in the visual sensations resulting from the interplay between man-made elements and the natural land surface, and how people carve out a living in the geography in which they exist. My most recent body of work is abstracted aerial views of airports runways. The inspiration for the paintings comes from my travels both domestically and internationally.

I live in Roanoke, VA and teach painting in the School of Visual Arts at Virginia Tech.
