D Derek

D Derek is a New York illustrator, painter and print maker whose work resonates with Abstract Expressionism and Modernism. He was raised on the New England coast and influenced by classical aesthetics. As an adult, a move to California introduced contemporary concepts that expanded his definitions of art.

What distinguishes the varied work of D Derek is his distinctive palette of vibrant colors. His pieces are hand drawn or abstracted from natural elements. His art explores life’s diverse relationships through color, form and movement. It connects viewers together with senses. The effect is art that is unifying. He’s interested how individual pieces within patterns form a communication and work collectively to create a whole. Hence, when we look deeper into the micro and we understand more about humanity.

D Derek attended Parsons School of Design and resides in New York City. He exhibits in juried shows and was awarded 1st Place for Abstract Art at the New York City Washington Square Art Exhibit, 2015. His artwork is in many private residences, galleries and art museum throughout the U.S.
