Korean born, Kyong Boon Oh received her BFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002, and her BS in Mathematics from Korea University in Korea in 1996. She was a painter before her health issues forced her to stop painting. Now she expanded her mediums to sculpting. She is a founding member of SSGOC (Stone Sculptors Guild of Orange County).

“Transcendent end is hidden in our own depths, waiting for the chance to occupy a conscious moment. I try to discover the moment and reveal it through my art practice which is in both figurative and abstract genre.

The ambiguity of emotion where I carefully observe my slightest unconscious gestures is the starting point of the creative process. And to clarify these vague human images lingering in my mind, I explore abstract forms using 3D mediums such as stone, clay and metal wire simultaneously and allow the physicality of the materials to lead myself. By the subtractive, additive and simple winding process of these mediums I try to dig out my inner self to wake up as an artist and as a human-being who explores things unseen.

Flowing with mediums and conforming to the process, I set up a kind of ‘hide and seek’ game as a way to find a latent image and reveal it for my self awareness that transcendent quality in life exists despite the ambiguity and it is hidden in our own selves.”
