Mary Nagel Klein

I prefer to focus on the quiet peacefulness of a well-ordered home and the beauty of an unspoiled landscape. Most of my work outside reveals little of the hand of man. Similarly, most of my still lifes contain elements of organic forms. The natural world is our life line and our respite – I hope to allow the viewer in to experience and realize its beauty.
The type of paint I use is casein and it can be a rather challenging medium. However, it also comes with many rewards. It dries to a beautiful matte finish which may later be buffed and its archival-ness is unrivaled. “It's amazing what you do with casein!” and “I don’t know how you do what you do with paint, but it’s sweet! Every passage is so rich in color - each stroke a different color, all harmonious in the whole,” are a couple of recent comments from art admirers. Having kept a working studio for over 20 years now, I’m also fortunate to have developed a recognizable style: “Great work. I love that I know who painted it as soon as I see it!” came from yet another recent viewer of my work.
