Miriam Kruishoop

I’m a Dutch-American award-winning and multi-faceted visual artist, and filmmaker living in Los Angeles. I graduated with honors from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. I work across a diverse set of creative genres. I’m a storyteller with a passion for exploring cultural narratives. For the past 25 years I have highlighted the invisible people in society and focused on diversity and inclusion. From films like Greencard Warriors to Estilo Americano, from solo shows like #IM ANGRY TOO to God Bless America, to Living in America, I have never shied away from addressing difficult topics. I’m drawn to the portrayal and empathetic celebration of the isolated within communities, the alone and far from home, the victims of abuse, racism, and prejudice. I respond to what I observe around me. My narratives are deeply rooted in reality and are inspired by true events or people. I want to give a platform to these complex stories in the hope that I can bridge or change perspectives. In my work I always try to address the way we perceive, judge, love, learn about and communicate with each other. I create within and with communities creating cross-cultural ties. This is an essential part of my practice and my value system.
