Sharon Allen

I always felt out of place growing up just outside of NYC in urban NJ, but found my heart's home in the beauty of New Hampshire. I'm inspired by the works of the White Mountain School of painters: Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, Samuel Gerry, and others, and stand in their footsteps to paint many of the same scenes with modern materials and colors. With the march of "progress" and human encroachment, many of the historic vistas are no longer accessible to the public and I feel an almost urgent need to create a visual record in paintings of the beauty that exists now. I feel that viewing a beautiful vista can help to alleviate some of the pressure and stress of daily life and strive to invite the viewer to step inside my painting and enjoy a few minutes of serenity.
