Rosetta DeBerardinis

As a child, visual artist Rosetta DeBerardinis refused to be confined to the lines of paint-by-numbers projects or the colors assigned in the instructions. Little has changed about the native New Yorker whose colorful explosive abstract expressionist paintings drip, gesture and meld onto 9 feet substrates. And, her drawings of towering urban environments abutting each other along with her three-dimensional assemblages incorporating repurposed materials are created a few steps from the nation’s Capitol in Washington, D.C. DeBerardinis spent several years at Pratt Institute’s children’s art classes before heading to Vassar College where she continued to pursue both an interest in art and writing; summer coursework at the Fashion Institute of Technology then onto study at The London School for Social Research, graduate work at Rice University and finally departing academia with both a master’s degree and a Juris Doctorate. Prior to transitioning into a full-time studio practice, she held positions at the U.S. Copyright Office, Saks Fifth Avenue, fashion editor and features contributor to numerous publications such as the Washingtonian, Elle, Seventeen, The Washington Times, Essence, United Press International, Baltimore magazine, Houston City magazine, Art Scene, Art Happenings of Houston, Virginia-Pilot Ledger- Star and Fashion Week Daily. She profiled the artist Erte; designers Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta; cosmetic queen Estee Lauder; modeling agency maven Eileen Ford; model Brooks Shields; fashion empress Diana Vreeland and many more. She even spent a decade fencing competitively and trained with the U.S. Olympic team.

Today, her resume is refined to online art reviews, art tour leadership, two artist residencies, workshop instructor on art marketing and guest instructor at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Luce Foundation Center, a Liquitex award for her mastery of daring colored pigment applications and lecturer for Golden Artist Colors, a paint manufacturer while maintaining a busy studio practice servicing galleries and collectors. Her painterly dialogue and mark-making has been exhibited and sold in museums, commercial galleries and art venues nationally and internationally including the Corcoran Gallery of Art; Dallas Women’s Museum; Museum of Latin-American Art; African-American Museum of Dallas; Koehnline Museum of Art; The Noyes Museum; International Museum of Postmodern Ceramics and the Yaroslavl Art Museum. Her bold gestures and powerful pigment droplets are housed in both public and private collections including the Marriott Corporation; Siena Art Institute; Modesto Museum; PNC Bank Corporate; Judith A. Hoffberg Archive; Black Mountain College Museum; The District of Columba Public Art Collection and Maryville University. She has been awarded commissions from Washington Sports and Entertainment Corporation, D.C. Department of Tourism, Federal Hill Main Street and contributor to public installations in the Chiang Hai International Airport in Beijing, China and the Kanoria Centre for the Arts in India. She is featured in the book 100 Artists of Washington, DC and The One Word Project along with newspapers, catalogs and magazines including The Washington Post, Galleries magazine, Washington Spaces, the Richmond-Times Dispatch and The Guardian.
