Seth Emerson Palmiter

Seth Emerson Palmiter is an American born sculptor residing in Southern Vermont. For a decade Seth has been a valuable collaborator and designer of significant public art commissions. Unlike many public artists, Seth not only designs his art but he also personally fabricates his sculptures. He does not subcontract any fabricating to large ateliers and is frequently sought after to help other public artists fabricate their designs. Seth has mastered many materials and is an innovator who achieves creative solutions through his knowledge of material and skill as a craftsman. He brings authentic, museum-caliber expertise to all his commissions. Seth’s artwork as well as his fabrication for other designers may be found in the commissions and collections of hospitals, universities, corporations, cities, and private residences. He is comfortable working as lead designer or as a member of the design-fabrication team. Given criteria to design towards, Seth develops art that responds to the architecture, aesthetic preferences, or mission of a facility and its stakeholders.

Possessing a natural aptitude for three-dimensional thinking, construction, mechanics, and process, Seth has an innate ability to fold complicated physical and material processes into his artwork, enabling him to design from a strong, innovative platform that exceeds the abilities of many designers. Palmiter is a thoughtful observer and listener who includes stakeholder goals to inform the art aesthetic, resulting in meaningful, engaging artworks.

Seth has developed freestanding sculpture, suspended mobiles, and integrated 2-D or etched glass art features. When developing a proposal, Seth reviews site information (or makes site visits where practical), analyzes material possibilities, and discusses the arc of the project with stakeholders to determine the final aesthetics of the commission. With great attention and consideration, he weaves various elements of a site, its purpose, and the community into a cohesive narrative to uplift and inspire.
