Artist statement 11.26.14

I paint images of people and landscapes. I use snapshot photos as image reference. I am interested in how the photo preserves the illusion of reality and abstracts it in its flattened space. Through photography images are burned into a semi tangible two-dimensional physicality. I choose and combine images that suggest a narrative but leave questions about the people and places and any conclusion to be drawn from the image. Is there a personal story or are these images but lost fragments of repeating patterns of situations, experiences and cultural themes that have been revisited and continue to be replayed with a revolving cast of characters that share a cultural milieu?
