Aryea Flohr

Aryea Flohr: Artist, Graphic Designer, Photographer, Blogger

Aryea Flohr is a contemporary artist from New York City who specializes in vibrant oil paintings. Aryea has been painting ever since he could hold a brush, but it wasn’t until he discovered oil painting that he found his true calling. Flohr's work often depicts fantastical subjects, but Aryea's unique style is what sets his paintings apart from others. He infuses his paintings with fantasy imagery, often using vibrant colors and strong outlines to create an interesting effect. Aryea’s work can be found in museums, galleries, and corporate art walls all over the world. Aryea’s work has been featured at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Studio Museum in Harlem.

How did oil painting guide Aryea Flohr's career path?

Oil painting was the driving force in Aryea Flohr’s career path. Oil painting was a natural progression for Flohr after he studied fine art in college. It was the perfect format for expressing his creative impulses. As a painter, you usually work on mixed media—paint, canvas, oils, etc.—so you have a wide range of skills to draw upon. While oil painting requires a more technical skill set, it also comes with its own set of challenges and opportunities.

What do you love most about painting?

Painting is what drives Aryea Flohr. The process of painting is what he loves most about painting. It’s a creative process that requires focus, concentration, and a steady hand. Painting has always been a part of Aryea’s life. It’s something he does for fun and relaxation, but it’s also something he does for work. Aryea’s proudest moment as an artist was when he won the 5th annual Global Illustration competition in 2016. The prize was a one-on-one mentorship with Donald Duck, and it was one of Aryea’s proudest moments as an artist.

Your favorite part of the process?

When you’re painting a picture that you’re truly proud of, it feels great to get that first big brush stroke. It’s a journey of discovery for an artist, and the process of discovery is what fuels an artist’s creativity. It can be nerve-wracking at times. You have to trust your process and work through your ideas alone. Don’t try to prove anyone wrong, or you’ll quickly lose interest in painting.

Aryea Flohr's advice for aspiring painters

Experience is the best teacher, and you can’t learn to paint like an artist by looking at paintings and drawings done by other artists. That’s like trying to learn to play an instrument by looking at how other people play the piano. Experience is what you need to truly succeed as an artist.

Art training is key. It’s what set you apart from the crowd. You need to study what you love, and you need to put in the work. It can be hard, but it’s what you need to succeed.

Final Words

Success as an artist-entrepreneur is about so much more than just painting great pictures. It’s about having a platform to share your art, finding your niche in the industry, and most importantly, applying yourself to the task at hand. If you love what you do, it’ll show.
