Christian Newby

Born in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Lives in London, UK.

Christian Newby was born in 1979 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and currently works and lives in London. He received his B.A. in Sculpture and Extended Media at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 and then an M.F.A. at the Glasgow School of Art in 2009. He is currently a PhD-candidate at the Contemporary Art Research Centre at Kingston University London. Exhibitions include: BOREDOME>MISCHIEF>FANTASY>RADICALISM>FANTASY at the Collective Gallery in Edinburgh; The chime, the drum, the scrape, the splash, the jerk at Patricia Fleming Gallery in Glasgow; a Brick-Wall-Spider-Web-Post-It-Note, Beers London; Yo Compro Calidad, Matadero Madrid; Public Knowledge at Camden Art Centre as part of the artist collective/research group We Are Publication. Newby is currently a doctoral candidate at Kingston University’s Contemporary Art Research Centre; Le Club des Sous l’Eau at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Interior 301, Galerie Alain Gutharc, Paris; Art + Chips, MOT International Project Space, London; has recently been artist in residence at AVA, Hong Kong; had a solo presentation at NADA Miami; Matadero, Madrid and URRA, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Arthouse Foundation in Lagos, Nigeria; and awarded a Pollock Krasner Foundation grant.
