Elissa Buchalter

Elissa Buchalter's work explores the space between the actual and conceivable in context of the whole. From Macro to micro the universe, planets, bodies, and cells all function as containers each situated within the other. Her work investigates the inpenetrable and permeable boundaries between containers, the opposite and identical matter they are filled with, and explores the nature of what happens when containers are emptied filling the preceding space. The tension between these opposing forces creates a balance point where dualities vanish into singularities. Ms. Buchalter's work explores the realm that exists beyond perception and what ‘being’ means in relation to the whole.

Ms. Buchalter received her BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She spent the 2015-2016 academic year on a Fulbright student research grant in India. Currently she is a Master of Fine Art's Candidate in Painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Originally from Denver, Colorado Ms. Buchalter supplements her creativity through long distance running, hiking, yoga and meditation. Ms. Buchalter derives inspiration from mathematical and quantum physics theory, architectural spaces, natural landscapes, mythology, eastern philosophy, and traveling.
