Eric Schweitzer

b. 1974, Halifax, NS

Schweitzer is known for his abstract figurative work. He employs an "action" gestural technique and largely begins works without any plan other than to keep a constant reverence for composition and open mind. Often his compositions remain non-objective, but spontaneously works will evolve to become abstract figurative forms via layering. While enamel "house" paint is a favorite medium due to its fluidity, he also works with traditional oils, acrylics and mixed media. "Nothing is off limits."

Schweitzer is heavily influenced by Abstract Expressionism and attributes his gestural painting style, composition and line use to the early impact of the 80s vibrant street graffiti and its stark contrast to his own New England countryside upbringing.
