Karen Ross

I'm a former psychotherapist, currently working as a self-taught encaustic artist, and have been enjoying this medium since 2009.

Encaustic painting has made it possible for me to marry my previous romances with collage, image transfer and decoupage. This exciting medium helps me explore endless techniques in layering, incising, and scraping to create the depth and texture I had longed to achieve with other mediums in the past.

The oil paint I use to color the wax provides a rich palette from which to launch my wax onto my preferred substrate of wood. My work explores layered images and moods, often with words or text in which the viewer can find meaning.
