Helen Shulov

I always had a passion for creating art. Ever since I was a teenager, I have been amazed by work of street artists and this inspired me for my first try of drawing portraits. I was hooked since then.
I never had any formal art education. I have degree in math and all my occupations were always related to math, computer programming and software engineering. And at the same time, I was always drawing and painting. I cannot say that I am 100% self-taught artist because I was seeking guidance and I learned some techniques and ideas at the following great art studios: Bridgeview School of Fine Art (Long Island City, NY) with its Russian classical tradition, and of course Art Student League of New York, which I think is the best place in US for aspiring artist to learn, work, exchange ideas and plunge into artistic community. I am proud to be a member of ASL.
Painting became for me the way of thinking and the way of expressing my thoughts about life and surrounding world. Every painting is a little life I live; it’s like being in another virtual world.
