IFEOMA ANYAEJI

Born in 1981, in Benin City, Ifeoma Anyaeji is a native of Anambra State in the southeastern part of Nigeria. She studied Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Benin, Benin City, where she obtained a Bachelors degree in Painting in 2005, with first class honors. In 2007 Ifeoma was offered a teaching position in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Benin, as a Graduate Assistant. She was awarded a Ford Fellowship, in 2010, to study at Washington University in St. Louis, where and she received her MFA in 2012. Besides her interest in the academics, Anyaeji enjoys her practice as a professional artist, participating in group and solo exhibition, nationally and internationally. She enjoys the challenges that come with being a female artist in Nigeria and sometimes expresses that in some of her works. Her current research is on the extension of product value through repurposing domestic waste materials, with the focus on plastic bags and bottles. This is in response to an environmental problem in her home country Nigeria.
