Joyce Conlon

I was adopted and raised in New England. I received my art education at Pratt Institute and Hartford Art School. In between I received my M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts where I studied art in cross-cultural perspective and archeology.

In my work process, using acrylic paints on wooden panel, I use pattern as an organizing principle. I apply a layer of paint and when it is dry I sand and buff it in order to give it a burnished quality. My paintings are many layered and as I sand each layer I reveal aspects of the previous layers and thus, create a dialogue with the past and most recent layers.
