Jennifer Ames

Jennifer Ames was born in Seoul, South Korea
moving to the United States at the age of two. Since childhood, she surrounded her life with art and design; always creating, eager to work with her hands. She didn’t seriously consider art as a career path until she entered her local college where she met a teacher who inspired and encouraged her to pursue art school. In 2006, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art where she is currently pursuing her degree (Bachelors of Fine Arts). Jennifer is the recipient of a yearly merit scholarship as well as a departmental recognition award. She is in her final year at the Maryland Institute. Her current body of work consists of oil paintings, pastel, charcoal, and ink drawings fused with opulent gilding that deal with her fascination with Renaissance art. She attributes religious connotations to the garment of the virgin, her dress, as well as singularly exploring the halo as an icon in itself.
