Jim McLean

After gaining an MA Honours from Glasgow University and postgraduate studies in Journalism, I pursued a career in journalism (winning the title of Scottish Journalist Of The Year twice) while developing my interest in art. Gradually, the art took over as my practice evolved - first through photography and exhibitions in the UK, then as an artist working in oil paints.
Photographic portraits can be seen in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery (London), Kelvingrove Art Gallery (Glasgow) and numerous private collections in the UK and US.
More recently, painting exhibitions include Espacio Gallery (London, 2018), Kings Place (London, 2017) and Llewellyn Gallery (London, 2017). I was shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2018. Last year I was commended in the prestigeous Ruth Borchard self portrait competition and my painting The Artist And His Dog was purchased for their Next Generation Collection.
