Kristina Nazarevskaia

Born in Armenia, Kristina Nazarevskaia was raised in Moscow and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, before coming to the USA in 1991. From Art History at Hunter College to Film Production and Art Business at New York University, the artist’s experiences have unified within her a profound desire for self expression.

Much of Kristina's work (REFLECTIONS and DUALITIES series) is an examination of complex social concepts, seen through the eyes of an observer and expressed through the traditional tools of fine art. In her large-scale paintings the artist often looks at the communicative and behavioral dynamics within societies and subsequent differences in expression. In contrast, her works on paper — TUMBLED, ARCH and SPHERE series of watercolors and gouache on paper — often examine the relationship and the viewer’s perception of space, weight, color and line. For their approach and treatment of materials Richard Serra, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Richard Diebenkorn and Franz Kline have all been quoted as major influences in her work.

Paintings from the RAIN series, inspired in part by the great Italian writer, Italo Calvino and his classic “If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler”. The paintings, executed in method known as “action painting”, are a series of thin semi-transparent glazes and opaque pigments applied and removed by the artist over the course of several months. The resulting works, featured in many films and TV series, including Sex and the City, White Collar, Gossip Girl among others, represent the artist's unique visual interpretation of the famous Italian story.

In the spring of 2012, after completing the Art Business program at New York University, Kristina, co-founded galleryIntell - a unique, all original content art advisory and education platform that provides viewers with engaging video interviews with the top galleries, artists and auction houses. As part of this venture Kristina has been working with the top galleries, artists, curators and auction houses in New York and around the world to bring carefully-curated video interviews to the art enthusiasts and collectors.
