Diane Artz Furlong

Diane Artz Furlong was born and raised and continues to live in the northern part of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. A pastel artist, her work consists primarily of depictions of the landscape surrounding her home in the Valley. Views of the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountain ranges, the Shenandoah River, Cedar Creek, the fields, woods, and farmland that make up this beautiful region are portrayed in a colorful, impressionistic style and convey a quiet sense of the grandeur of the landscape.

As a self-taught artist, Diane has spent many hours studying and experimenting with the medium of soft pastel. Through the use of social media she has access to the works and insights of many contemporary pastel artists and pastel art instructors. This contact with other artists has provided Diane with a source of helpful feedback which she feels has enhanced her skill in using the medium.

Diane's work is in collections here and abroad. She has exhibited in many group shows and has had several solo exhibitions, most notably in 2012 at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, Virginia.
