Jihan Latimer

The purpose for this application is to further invest in my independent career as an artist and honor my brother's legacy, I have been operating as an independent for quite some time, and it has been a challenge for resources. However, I seek out fellowships, or grants to assist in that regard. My humble goal is to continue producing art regardless of the circumstance, and that is what artists are required to do. The Old Masters never deviated from producing art. In sickness/in good health, the Old Master continuously produced art (good or bad).
I am not going to compare myself to the Old Masters, but I do mention them because they have continuously been an inspiration of mine; to continuously produce works of art, regardless the circumstances. I am proud to say that I am an independent, because it is a huge sacrifice that I have made, to put out my impressions into the world. Having the control to paint or produce whatever works of art, is a privilege, and no I do not talk about monetary gain. My work is not always appreciated; however, that is not why I do this. There is so much history my art carries, and my goal is to inspire the viewers to further research the topics that I paint.
I am a traditionalist, so all my work is uniquely done by hand initially. If I am to transport the work digitally, if need be, I do so. Primarily, my work is always done by hand, which is what I am most proud of. Our world is transferring into Artificial Intelligence, which has its part to play in the art scene. There are many Digital Artists, which has been due to the AI emergence. I am not here to impugn Digital Art, because it does have its place in the world. However, the traditionalists I fear are losing ground. Due to the manipulations that technology provides, most artist find it far more simple to use AI technologies to enhance the subject, colour and composition of the art.
My goal is to continuously inspire those who wish to be inspired by my creative pursuits. Needless to say, most of my topics concentrate on historical subjects throughout history. I find it a pleasure to research historical subjects for my portraits and honor my brother Marc Latimer's legacy.
