Lori Anne Boocks

Lori Anne Boocks earned a BFA from Old Dominion University in 1992. In her paintings, words and numbers serve as both subject matter and the basis for mark-making. Texture for each piece comes from her hands, brushwork, and a subtractive process where layers of washes are added to the surface, then partially removed. Her influences include Cy Twombly, Anselm Kiefer, Nancy Spero, J.M.W. Turner, and Chinese calligraphy. Her work is included in private and corporate collections in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and Australia. She is a Virginia native now living in Maryland.
