Damon Leverett

Damon Leverett, MFA, AIA, LEED AP is an architect and independent design and planning professional based in the southwest. Damon is also an active artist and owner of Gallery Ten Seven an online exhibit portal focusing on the intersection of architecture and art. Open internationally, the gallery goal is to promote the vision and ideas of both architects who practices in the art space and artist who engages with architecture as a source of interest.

Damon recently received recognition for his works at the Art League in Alexandria, Virginia and the Bauhaus Prairie Art Gallery. Active in the Detroit art scene, Damon has exhibited at the Detroit Artist Market, Mask Gallery, Willis Gallery and the Creative Art Center Pontiac. In the promotion of other artist, Damon has been a juror and curator for the Detroit Focus Gallery and is a former board member for Scottsdale Public Art. In 1993 Damon curated the exhibit “Industria: the secret art of architects” for the Detroit Focus Gallery.

With over thirty years of experience in the architecture industry, Damon has participated in the academic setting serving as Adjunct Instructor at Lawrence Technological University from 1990 to 2001 and Visiting Lecturer of Architectural Design at the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign from 2012 - 2013. Damon was recently awarded Lawrence Technological University, School of Architecture Distinguished Alumni Award in 2015 for his contribution to the profession and academia. Damon also holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Web and New Media from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

As architect and planner Damon has also been involved in major urban planning collaborations including the University of Michigan Detroit Charrette 2002, Lawrence Technological University Detroit Charrette 2002, Phoenix East Warehouse District Framework Plan in 2006 and Lawrence Technological University K-12 program at Detroit Denby High School in 2014.
Damon is formerly with the American Institute of Architects in Washington DC, where he served as Managing Director, Workforce Development and Strategy from 2013 to 2019. His primary focus has been in the field of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, K-12 Education and Women in Architecture. For his contributions to the profession in the area of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Damon received the American Institute of Architects Presidential Citation in 2018.

Damon is a licensed architect in Arizona and Michigan and resides in Tucson. His current publication is “Orange Sky: Love of Drawing in the Second Machine Age”.
