Lisa Russo

A contemporary artist trained in the traditional style, Lisa was born in New Jersey in 1972, moved to Florida when she was nine. She showed a gift at a very young age. Throughout her education she studied drawing and painting and won numerous awards and has been featured in an extensive amount of publications including the cover for the national trade magazine “Where the Show Are”. Lisa earned her Bachelor's of Fine Arts, Master of Education and Master of Fine Arts. She continues to explore many mediums, techniques and styles only to gravitate back to oil painting. Lisa studied with a traditional master oil painter and extended her repertoire of knowledge by painting various masterpieces from the 1600’s. As a former art professor and current art educator for the public school system and the Appleton Museum of Art, she continues to hone her skills while sharing her techniques and knowledge with public and private students. Lisa continues to educate herself in art history and traditional painting technique through her travels, extensive readings and studies.
Lisa’s various travels and desire for knowledge has led her to show an affinity for painting the human figure in candid moments. Furthermore, her interest in weight training. Skating and dance assists in her studies of the human anatomy and the figure in motion. All of her subjects are photographed from live models or throughout her travels to capture the exact moment that will be the next inspiration for her future compositions. From her travels she unearths backgrounds that enhance each composition. She is always looking for the perfect moment, architecture and mood to place her sensual subject. All of her muses and experience add to the mystery and intrigue of her Masquerade series, which has been a common theme. In her portraiture, she continues to capture that intimate moment with informal poses and a truthfulness to her subjects. This wide array of interests always gravitates back capturing likeness, emotion and personal intimacy of each figure.
The influence of the old-world masters is prevalent throughout her work; however, she puts a fresh twist to her figures. Lisa invented a multi-dimensional canvas that has a U.S. Patent and can change from a 2-dimensional trapezoid into a 3-dimensional pyramid. She has shown throughout the Southeastern United States and her work can been in many private and public collections. She created one of the Horse Fever horses for Marion Cultural Alliance’s public art project and her mural work can be seen at Milano’s and Napolino’s Italian Restaurants. There is large collection of her work displayed at Village View Community Church, College of Central Florida, paintings at the Marion County Archology and History Museum and Shand’s Hospital.
Lisa resides in Central Florida with her husband, son and a daughter, who give much inspiration to her work. Often you can catch her painting with one of her faithful dogs under her easel. She continues to feed her passion of painting daily and looks for new inspiration in everything that she does.
