tallon chalmers

We were at a historic place, Katrina and the years following. It has been a bare bones journey blues to the core, unimaginable night rhythms, soulfully acknowledging the dark days that have run on in years.
As a New Orleans native and artist my paintings are a window into my soul. I am strongly influenced by change and find it important to reflect the transformation that is ongoing.
Not only is it important to document what is happening, but equally important to help change what is occurring by creating awareness and addressing the pain in its parts. It is an ongoing story of self-sufficiency, durability and ultimately independence. With the continuation of strength, I am always taking the next steps toward a more personal and artistic development.

Art is movement, movement is energy and energy is change.

I find it important to reflect the transformation that is occurring in our society. To recognize not just how far we have come but how far we still have to go. During this period of natural disasters, economic and political struggles, I show real people in real situations as symbols of what we can achieve.
My paintings are similar to early Precisionist artists and recognize the power of the workingman. I use geometric shapes, straight lines, circles and triangles, combining abstraction and realism.
As I observe and explore the contrasts that go on in our everyday lives, I use the combination of sophisticated computer graphics with hand color digital images of watercolor, colored pencil, collage and transparent color overlay.
My style has changed considerably over time yet there is a strong link between my earlier paintings and my recent work.
