MIDABI MIDABI

Early in my life I established a deep commitment to divergent acts in hopes of attaining uncommon insight into the nature of reality. I utilize the power of text and compose my findings into an artistic practice as a means of sharing information; philosophical public intervention.

I was born at home in SoHo, New York City. I come from blue and white collar artists, salesmen, engineers, veterans, and progressive cultural pioneers. I began making art and seeking knowledge at the age of 15, from which my current work is a direct extension. I have a bachelor’s in media & cultural studies, and a master’s in international counseling psychology. My education in art has evolved over time, informed by exposure to family and the various influences and institutions in NYC. One grandmother was a painter of female nudes in NYC, the other founded an art school in Los Angeles. My 90 year old godfather founded the world’s first LGBTQ fine art museum. In craft and design I am self taught, learning through experience how to handle engineering, fabrication, logistics, and all aspects of project management.

I began with text/graphic art in 2002, then sculpture in 2016.

I have placed work in various extreme of environments. The two heights of accomplishment for me have been placing an 8000 pound sculpture in the the middle of the maelstrom of Manhattan, and the other, carrying a steel and aluminum sculpture 300 feet offshore into the toxic and desolate Salton Sea.

I am passionate about the challenges of a life well lived and I revel in fulfilling difficult visions that others might shy away from.

I seek to know and love the world in its totality, without discrimination or judgment. I’ve lived in New York, California, Mexico, London, and Hong Kong.
