marcie jan bronstein

Photographer, painter, author, designer. M.J. Bronstein has been a studio artist for more than 25 years. Known for her unique painted images and her work with the photographic negative, her art is exhibited, published, and collected around the world.
An art educator and creator of ArtLab for All Ages, a hands-on program at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, M.J. is also the author of PhotoPlay, (published by Chronicle Books, March 2014; BBNC Netherlands, 2015), the first-of-its-kind photo-based prompt book.
An insatiable traveler, in 2014, she began working as Onboard Artist for Celebrity Cruises, designing itinerary-based projects to teach creative watercolor painting aboard the ships.
In 2015, after thirty years of dedication to photography, M.J. created her last photo-based series, Site Seeing. This work is fittingly as much about not photographing as it is about photographing. Recent work reflects the convergence of a love for watercolor and years of yoga practice and swimming. Painting in a state of openness, responding to the flow of the paint, the building of layers of translucency, and the merging of colors and shapes is what guides the process of making the paintings. M.J. Bronstein lives with her family in a reconstructed barn on the coast of Maine.
