Naoko Morisawa

Naoko Morisawa, born in Tokyo, studied BA in Design from Tama Art University, Tokyo and Artist Trust EDGE professional program in Seattle, WA.
My mosaic painting artwork is made of hundreds of very small slices of natural/ oil-dyed woodcut on board. The variety of wood grain is very beautiful and the pattern is never the same. The combination of natural grains creates interesting shadows and impressions. This art style is transformed from a traditional Japanese art form. When seen from a distance, my artwork looks like a painting the details of the work slowly emerge when viewer comes closer. Bright, fun, and unusual subjects attract and inspire me to work in new directions. Mysterious creatures and Illusions are recurring themes in my work.

Mainly, I work for 2D mosaic painting. Recently I have created sculpture mosaic artwork. I have exhibited my work over 30 US states through juried exhibition.
My recent exhibitions include the following: the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum 2019 (juried by Florence Derieux etc), Himeji City Museum Japan 2019, Bellingham National 2019 at Whatcom Museum (juried by Bruce Guenther, OR), 64 Arts National Exhibition Greater Chicago (juried by Ben Owen, the Director of Arts@MSP), Asia Design Triennial 2018 at Cambodia (sponsored by Toyota), National Weather Center Biennial 2017 (juried by Joe Goode), Dublin Biennial 2014(juried by Man Ray Trust curator), General Electric Cultural Gallery, HQ, CT State as well as galleries, museums in Japan.

My very recent topic to art image is from the nature, such mountains, lakes, sky, water and clouds. Nature offers me many way of expression to present the wonder.
I would like to express the invisible part of the natural beauty to human eyes on my painting. I can make my art very personal way with careful arrangement.

My mosaic painting artworks have been collected to Seattle International Airport, City of Seattle, City of Bellevue, City of Portland, Oregon etc.
