Neil Berger

I was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 9th, 1971. My parents are Dr. Alan Berger of Chicago, a professor and lawyer, and Susan MacKay of Toronto, an artist and graphic designer. I received a BA from Stanford University in Studio Art and Cognitive Science ('93) and an MFA in painting from Boston University ('95).
Since finishing school, I have worked as an unaffiliated full-time artist, specializing in oil painting and printmaking, especially monotype. I have received several awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship in painting, a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in printmaking and an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award (twice).
My outside interests include basketball, reading (Hemingway, Mann), music (Bach, Beethoven, The Rolling Stones) and travel (Europe, Morocco, Peru, Mexico, Western US).
