Patti Robbins

As a child growing up in New York City in the 50's, my love of art began with sidewalk chalk. From there I moved on to coloring books. However, my love for ballet consumed my youth and fueled my dreams of becoming a dancer. Painting and drawing were put on the back burner. During my high school years I dabbled in art but never let it replace my devotion to dance. The reality of being too short for the world of dance ( Balanchine ideal ballerina) and perhaps not being “star material” forced me to reconsider my options. I went off to college, became an elementary school teacher, married, and four children later at age fifty felt the urge to paint seriously. However, prior to this epiphany, I took many art classes at the undergraduate college level, as well as workshops; painting was a pleasurable outlet for me, but not a career choice. At age fifty I sold my first painting and since then I have been exhibiting locally and nationally.
