Patrick Lydon

An American ecological artist living in Japan, Lydon’s work incorporates photography, mixed-media installation, and community engagement. Born and raised in San Jose, California, he attended San Jose State University (BA), before continuing studies at Aichi University of Art, and The University of Edinburgh (MFA). His artwork re-imagines cities as sustainable ecosystems, drawing on cultural traditions from diverse casts of people, from farmers and monks to urban planners and educators.

Recent exhibitions have taken place at Setouchi Triennale, Geumgang Nature Art Biennale, Sorbonne University, and the David Brower Center. Together with wife Suhee Kang (South Korea), he directed the documentary “Final Straw: Food, Earth, Happiness,” part of the Buchanan Prize-winning Global Environmental Justice Collection. He is founder of City as Nature, the arts editor for The Nature of Cities (New York), and previously served as a council-appointed Arts Commissioner for the City of San Jose. He has written recently for YES! Magazine, Kyoto Journal, The Mercury News, and Routledge Press.
