Steve Prince

Artist Steve A. Prince is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, and he currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland. Prince received his BFA from Xavier University of Louisiana and his MFA in Printmaking and Sculpture from Michigan State University. He currently teaches at Montgomery College in Germantown, Maryland as an Assistant Professor of Art. He is represented by Eyekons Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Stonemetal Press in San Antonio, Texas.
Prince has created several public works including a 6' x 6' x 10' Welded Aluminum sculpture with wind-chimes titled "Open Expressions located in Richmond, VA, 9' x 20' pencil drawing titled "Bird in Hand: Second Line for Michigan" located in Grand Rapids, MI, a life-size bronze bust of 1967 Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Ruppert Leon Sargent located in Hampton, Virginia, a 15’ stainless steel kinetic sculpture entitled “Song for John” located in Hampton, Virginia, a 3’ x 24’ woodcut entitled “All that Jazz...Making New Connections” located in Richmond, Virginia, a mixed media sculptural installation entitled “Fabric of Life” at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News, Virginia, and a 10’ mixed media sculpture with Grace Church in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Prince received several honors for his art and scholarship including the 2010 Teacher of the year for the City of Hampton, Virginia through the Virginia Public School Program, the two time Best in Show recipient at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia Beach News Waves regional competition in 2001 and 2004, a Creating Excellence Award winner, of the “Virginia Career and Technical Education”, and a two time Semi-Finalist of The Trawick Prize, Annual Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards at Creative Partners Gallery, in Bethesda, Maryland.
Prince has participated in several residencies including the forthcoming 2013 Bag Project Resident in Johannesburg, South Africa, the 2012 Keyholder Resident at Pyramid Atlantic in Silver Spring, MD, the 2008 Artist in Residence at the Steward School in Richmond, VA, the 2007 Partners of the Americas Artist in Residence in Santa Catarina, Brazil, and the 2007 Artist in Residence in Winnipeg, Canada with the Invisible Dignity Project.
Prince has exhibited his artwork, conducted workshops, and he has lectured in both secular and sacred settings internationally.
