A Washington DC-based painter, I also spend considerable time painting on the Maine and Massachusetts coasts.

I work in the spirit of primitive or naïve styles, using composition and color to balance forms and rhythms and the directness of the palette knife to create a distinct and whimsical exploration of surface. With allusions to the works of early 20th century American painters and the Fauvists, my paintings embody a tension between familiarity and abstraction, drawing viewers in, yet leaving unresolved their placement within the imagined space.

I am represented by the Julie Heller Gallery, Provincetown, MA and glavekocen Gallery, Richmond, VA. My work has been widely exhibited at Washington DC area venues including: City Gallery, BlackRock Center for the Arts Visual Gallery, Vander Zee Gallery, District of Columbia Arts Center, and Capitol Hill Arts League where I was awarded First Place in an exhibit juried by Kathryn Wat, National Women in the Arts Museum's Curator for Contemporary and Modern Art.

Other venues include Crossroads Art Center, Richmond, VA; Eastern Mennonite University Gehman Gallery, Harrisonburg, VA; The Gallery at Caterpillar Hill, Sedgwick, ME; and Gail Browne, Provincetown, MA. In 2000 I received a DC Commission on the Arts Projects grant.

I studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design and Maine Photographic Workshops, among other institutions, and with artists including Rob Vander Zee, Rodney Smith and Joe Cameron.

Early mornings I am often rowing on the Potomac River.
